In a perfect world, it is always a good idea to ensure that the lighting in your pool is placed in such a way as to completely illuminate the pool, while not casting glare on the house. Typically, with rectangular pools, the main light source is located at the deep end. Therefore, it is best not to have the deep end facing your house.
However, in terms of lighting placement and positioning, if you only want to upgrade your existing lighting without draining and drilling to create new lights, then you will be limited by the lights in their current location. If you are stuck with a pool that stubbornly insists on facing the wrong direction, another option may be to install a lower wattage light at the end that causes intrusive glare.
